GOLD COAST PEST FISHING CLASSIC

Greetings, anglers and nature enthusiasts! The Gold Coast Pest Fishing Classic has once again proven to be a monumental success, and we’re thrilled to share the incredible achievements of this year’s event. A big shout-out to all the participants, sponsors, and everyone who contributed to making this event a triumph!

Impressive Turnout: This year witnessed an astounding response, with 1780 passionate individuals registering for the Gold Coast Pest Fishing Classic. The enthusiasm was palpable, as 300-400 participants eagerly gathered to engage in a day of camaraderie and responsible fishing.

Angler Triumphs: A remarkable 135 successful anglers took the stage to showcase their impressive catches, surpassing last year’s record of 113. The dedication and skill displayed by each participant were truly commendable.

Bountiful Biomass Removal: In an effort to preserve the Gold Coast waterways, participants collectively removed a staggering 828.42kgs of biomass, including the introduction of carp into the mix this year. This brings our total biomass removal to an impressive 4004.42kg, marking a significant contribution to the health of our aquatic ecosystems.

Hidden Treasures: The event was not just about numbers; it was about the diverse array of species discovered. From a colossal 75.8cm Carp, weighing in at 6.8kgs, courtesy of Angler Damir Ajkunic, to a rare Pearl Cichlid, 13 Texas Cichlids, Gold Fish, a Mirror Carp, and common carp, the variety of catches showcased the threat that these invasive species pose on the Gold Coast waterways.

Heartfelt Thanks: None of these achievements would have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors. A heartfelt thank you to The City of Gold Coast, NaturallyGC, and each one of you who participated and contributed to the success of the Gold Coast Pest Fishing Classic.

Looking Ahead: As we celebrate the triumphs of this year, we’re already looking forward to the next event scheduled for November 2nd, 2024. Mark your calendars, sharpen your hooks, and get ready for another day of exciting fishing and conservation efforts.

In conclusion, the Gold Coast Pest Fishing Classic has not only grown in numbers but has also diversified in its impact. Together, we’ve made a significant difference in preserving the beauty and health of our waterways. Until next time, tight lines and happy fishing!
